Dawn services this Easter

10.4.2019 | Congregational Life, Moderator, Church Life, Easter, Presbytery News

As first light touches land and sea at dawn on Easter Sunday, thousands of Presbyterians across Ireland will come together at different outdoor locations to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Most of the earliest services begin at 6am, with other services following at 6.15am, 6.30am and 7am. Depending on the weather, each service will vary in length and involve praise, prayer, scripture reading and a short address. With the sun rise and venue adding to the celebration of the resurrection, some even offer a tasty breakfast afterwards.

Looking forward to Easter, Presbyterian Moderator, Rt Rev Dr Charles McMullen said, “These special services have become increasingly popular over the years, with many rising well before the sun to gather together for worship and fellowship, celebrating the most important of dates in the Christian calendar – Christ's resurrection.

“Gathering together in a variety of venues in many of Ireland’s iconic scenic settings, from sea shores to lough shores, lake sides to forest parks and the hills and mountains of the north - all are very welcome,” Dr McMullen said.

Grouped together by presbytery, from the list below you will find nearly 40 different venues to proclaim ‘He is risen!’

In a specially commissioned video, former global mission worker, Pamela McCullagh can be seen climbing to Cloughmore Stone in near Rostrevor, Co Down, one of this year's venues. Making the pre-Easter trek with her minister-husband, Annalong Presbyterian’s Rev David McCullagh, she sets the scene for the coming dawn services on Sunday 21 April.
