The Sunday Service - 14 June 2020

14.6.2020 | Congregational Life, Moderator, Church Life, COVID-19 Emergency, The PCI Sunday Service

This is Dr Bruce's second Sunday service recorded for the wider Presbyterian family to enable Sunday worship from home during the Coronavirus crisis.

Recorded in the Weir Chapel in Assembly Buildings in Belfast, the Moderator explained that his second service will start a new series studying Paul’s letter to the Ephesians.

“We begin our new series in Ephesians 1:1-16 and will explore what can an ancient letter like this say to the church in 21st century Ireland, ” Dr Bruce said.

"There are three broad themes in this letter which I hope we will look at over these weeks, and which were written by Paul in the year AD62, when he was in prison in Rome.

"Firstly, God has reconciled the whole of creation to himself, in Christ. Secondly, God has united people from all nations to himself and to one another, in Christ. Thirdly, God now calls his followers, the church, to live as if all this was true. They are to be a new kind of society - a new humanity - in Christ. I hope you can join me over the next few weeks to explore this letter together."

This hymns and worship songs will be:

  • Come people of the risen King
  • The church’s one foundation
  • Name of all majesty

This week, Rt Rev Dr Frank Sellar, the minister of Bloomfield Presbyterian, Rev Liz Hughes, Convener of the Council for Global Mission and  Rev Uel Marrs, who is Secretary to the Council of Global Mission, will also participate in the service.

This service was recorded in the Weir Chapel in Assembly Buildings in Belfast.
