24.10.2017 | Congregational Life, Youth and Children,

The theme of MAD 2017 was ENCOUNTER – what does it means to have a real and meaningful encounter with triune God?  How can we help others to encounter Jesus?

Our speakers Rich Powney (Evangelical Alliance) and Kathy Craig (Lowe Memorial Presbyterian Church) brought us biblical accounts of three people who encountered God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – and one who then drew others to encounter Jesus too.  The mainstage talks and the seminars too will hopefully have been used by God to change lives as the young people encountered Him in a fresh way and left with a vision to share Jesus with others.

Much as we all hope that God uses MAD powerfully, our job as adult disciple makers in the church is not simply to give such valuable “mountain top” experiences.  We are to walk with our young people through the year and through their lives to help them serve and follow Christ.

So an Encounter resource has been developed with ideas and tools designed to help leaders continue to help their young people encounter God. The resources are not prescriptive but should be adapted to best suit individual need and can also be used by a group who have not attended MAD 2017.

  • Pre-event session: this was sent to groups before the event and examines where and how we encounter God and can be used by any group at any stage.
  • Helping Young People to Pray: ideas and activities to encourage individual and corporate prayer.
  • Setting up a Prayer Room: ideas for how to create a designated prayer space.
  • Encountering Jesus in the Everyday: follow-up ideas from the Saturday morning seminar in the Diamond when three young people shared their stories of living for Christ in a secular context.
  • Praying for Friends: how to encourage prayer for friends and share faith in Jesus with them.

The above resource is available for download as a PDF file from the downloads box.

There are a number of videos from the weekend which you can also download to use in your group.  You are welcome to use them within your congregation but please do not share them on social media or put them on any website.

  • Three videos of Dan, Elizabeth and Josh’s stories.
  • Videos of Dan’s answers to 5 interview questions.

These videos are free to download, but leaders are required to register their group first, which they can do below.
