Moderator's Palm Sunday Service – 5 April 2020

5.4.2020 | Congregational Life, Moderator, Church Life, Easter, COVID-19 Emergency, The PCI Sunday Service

As congregations are unable to meet on Palm Sunday today, this morning the Moderator, Rt Rev Dr William Henry takes a break from his mini-series on Habakkuk and focuses on the road to Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Once again, Dr Henry has recorded the service for the wider Presbyterian family earlier this week in Maze Presbyterian, his home congregation. Speaking before the recording, the Moderator said, “While so much of the rhythm of life, and our own church life has changed, there are some things that we can hold fast to and look forward to, and Easter, is one of them.

“I am taking a short two-week break from Habakkuk as I focus on the Easter story. My sermon this week will be a reflection on the meaning of ‘Hosanna’ - a word that is so central to Palm Sunday, getting us to think about the salvation that Jesus won for us all at the cross; and our need of it today in our continuing crisis,” he said.

The service begins with ‘Make way’ and ‘On the altar of our praise’. The two readings will be taken from:

  • Psalm 118
  • Matthew 21

The kids section will be a recording of a puppet script performed by the Maze PC puppet ministry team made at a previous Palm Sunday service. Kids praise is the song ‘whose side are you leaning on?’

Our prayer of intercession will focus on life amidst the crisis. Final praise will be ‘I cast my mind to Cavalry.’

Dr Henry will resume his third of his five sermons on Habakkuk on 19 April.
