West Belfast Special Project

15.2.2023 | Mission in Ireland,

This project is based in the west of the city of Belfast in an area designated as a Special Area of Mission, where PCI has not had a presence for over 40 years. It has only been in operation since 1st September 2022, when David Moore was appointed to it as minister in Special Work for West Belfast. The project is initially intended to last for four years.

The proposal to establish this project described its main function as, "to present the gospel to the local community through word and action, with the aim that, as people encounter Jesus Christ, they will be drawn to faith and trust in him as Saviour and Lord, and be built up in discipleship. Although this is not being described as a 'Church Plant', it is intended that a living, worshipping, reformed community of Christians be established in the area and a new congregation may come from that - although perhaps not be recognisable as a traditional Presbyterian congregation".

Introducing the minister in Special Work for West Belfast and the role:

David Moore is married to Elaine and they have three adult children and one grandchild. They have previously served in Stormont (as an Assistant), Drum, Cootehill and Kilmount in the Monaghan Presbytery, Kilkenny in the Dublin and Munster Presbytery and Knock in the East Belfast Presbytery.

David hopes to join with others who have a compassion and love for the people who live and work in West Belfast. His desire is to build relationships through which the good news of Jesus can be shared, praying that in this way individual lives and that of the broader community may be transformed by an encounter with the Lord. Both he and his wife feel clearly called to this work, and are excited to see what God may have in store!

Prayer points:

  • As they settle in, to have meaningful and significant conversations with people in the local community from the beginning.
  • For wisdom to know how and where to invest their time in specific people and places.
  • Please give thanks for those who have already undertaken to support this new work both prayerfully and financially.
  • For both David and Elaine to walk closely with the Lord, leaning upon him, so that they may be faithful witnesses of the Saviour.
