Service:

2000 - 2007 First Antrim Presbyterian Church
2007 - Kells Presbyterian Church

Background:

Although born in Ballymena, Sheila has spent most of her life in Larne. Her career in the Civil Service was exchanged for that of a student when she responded to the Lord's call into full-time training for His service. On completion of a three year Biblical Studies course with the Reformed Presbyterian College, Sheila was invited by and accepted the offer firstly of Craigyhill (1983-89) and then Gardenmore (1989-99) to join them as their Woman Worker. In 1999 Sheila commenced Deaconess training. In May 2000 she was appointed to 1st Antrim as Probationary Deaconess and on 27th May 2001 was commissioned for service as their Deaconess. Six years later, in September 2007, having received much blessing sharing in team ministry with Dr. John Dixon, and having seen the development of women's ministry within the congregation into the community, as well as the joy of seeing those reached coming to faith and into fellowship, Sheila obeyed the Lord's leading and accepted the call by Kells congregation to develop a similar work with them.

Present Ministry:

The Lord confirmed His call to Sheila immediately on her arrival at Kells where, alongside her Minister, Session, and surrounded by much prayer, not only the physical harvest season has been evidenced but the spiritual. A young woman surrendered her life to the Lord and two backsliders were restored. Door-to-door outreach by the congregation during the summer months paved the way for follow-up work for Sheila, resulting in new families attending worship services, more ladies attending Mums & Tots, new children joining Campaigners, a 'cafe' for adults on Monday evenings when children are at Campaigners and a nurture group Bible Study on Thursday mornings (with crëche facilities provided by PWA ladies and friends). Added to this the door has opened for Sheila not only to join the rota to lead assembly at the two local primary schools, but to support the schools in any way that develops relationships with school and church. Together with her Minister and an Elder, Sheila shares hospital and home visitation and counselling.

Interests:

Setting aside time for family and friends, and making new friends. Walking, reading, badminton, golf, car boot sales (selling and 'surveying'). The occasional night out to a concert or show or for a meal, and late evening coffee times with friends 'after work' to relax at her 'local'.

Prayer Requests:

  • that Sheila will develop and stay fresh in her relationship with the Lord.
  • against the work of the evil one, personally and corporately.
  • for vision to develop what has already begun.
  • for the continued spiritual and physical integration of 'outsiders' into the fellowship.
  • for good time management to counter 'workaholic' traits in Sheila's nature!
  • that Session will know the Lord's wisdom and guidance as they proceed with exciting outreach challenges and opportunities.
  • that we would never lose sight of the real reason for living - the glory of the Lord through the message of Jesus Christ!
