Service:

1990 - 2002Whiteabbey Presbyterian Church
2002 -Royal Victoria Hospital

Background:

Jean had brief forays into the world of banking and the Civil Service before embarking on a teaching career. From 1976-1982 she taught RE and English in Glengormley High School, following which she became a Schools' Worker with Scripture Union until 1990. Jean grew up in the congregations of Nelson Memorial and, later, West Kirk.

Present Ministry:

Working along with Rev Henry Wilson as a member of the Chaplaincy Team in the Royal Hospital, now part of the Belfast Trust. Primarily ministering to patients who on admission to hospital indicate their church denomination as Presbyterian. Being a link to the local congregation while people are in hospital and providing a supportive and supplementary ministry alongside the patient's own ministry team. A growing pastoral ministry to staff members is ongoing.

Interests:

Walking, DIY and going to the cinema, and out with friends.

Prayer Requests:

  • There have been many changes in the Chaplaincy team over past months, with more changes in Autumn 2007. Please remember the team.
  • From September to December 2007 Jean will be studying for a unit of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education). Please pray for a manageable balance between work, study and rest!
  • Attendance at times of worship on Sundays (and in the Elderly Care Unit) has been disappointing. Please pray that we can be more effective in meeting these spiritual needs.
  • For physical, emotional and spiritual energy as Jean seeks to minister to the needs of patients and their relatives.
  • For supportive, caring relationships with other members of staff, especially those who are under stress, with all the reconstruction within the Health Service.
  • Give thanks for the Thursday lunch-time prayer group and Healthcare Christian Fellowship on the second Tuesday of each month. Pray that more Christian staff may join to pray for the hospital and enjoy fellowship and support.
