Global Mission

The desire to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the women and girls of India was the prime motivation for the formation in 1873 of the first women’s organisation of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.

From 1874 until 2000, the Presbyterian Women’s Association (PWA), and the women’s organisations of our Church that preceded it, sent a total of 239 full-time missionaries into 11 countries. Throughout these years, and wherever they served, the aim of the missionaries remained the same - to make Christ known through their life and witness.

In this, they were faithfully supported through prayer and finance by the women’s associations of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.

Today, as Presbyterian Women (PW) we continue this support, working in close partnership with PCI’s Board of Mission Overseas (BMO), otherwise known as Presbyterian Mission Overseas.

Every year, Presbyterian Women give a financial grant to BMO, which helps meet the cost of training and supporting mission personnel serving overseas.
