Ahoghill Presbyterians Condemn Attacks

The ministers of the three Presbyterian Churches in Ahoghill have issued this statement following the recent attacks in the village.

As Presbyterian ministers, those committed to preaching the whole counsel of the living God, we find it necessary and needful at this time to condemn without reservation the ongoing cycle of attacks in the village of Ahoghill, and to call for those involved in such evil activity to cease forthwith.

We feel also the need to point out that whatever the perceived cause, those involved purport to advance, their creed is not that of historic Protestantism.

Protestantism seeks primarily to promote the cause of Christ who summarised all of the law of God thus, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength AND YOUR NEIGHBOUR AS YOURSELF."

We also feel the need to assure our Roman Catholic neighbours of the support and prayers of our Presbyterian people in the village and its hinterland. We further encourage all who are saved by the grace of God to earnestly pray that He will have mercy and intervene in this extremely dangerous situation.

Finally, we call on anyone who has any information that would help the PSNI to apprehend the culprits responsible, to contact the police forthwith, perhaps using the confidential telephone, and in so doing they may prevent further suffering and perhaps murder.

Rev Eddie Kirk, First Ahoghill
Rev David McGaughey, Brookside
And on behalf of Trinity Presbyterian Church and their minister and Moderator of the General Assembly Dr Harry Uprichard who is unreachable on holiday.
