Presbyterian Moderator visits North West

Presbyterian Moderator Dr Ken Newell will be in Londonderry this Sunday and Monday, 16 and 17 January, to take part in a special service, meet local ministers and visit a home for elderly people run by the Presbyterian Church.

On Sunday evening 16 January at 8.00pm, Dr Newell will preach at a service to mark the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in Carlisle Road Methodist Church. Representatives from all the main denominations will be taking part and the Moderator will preach on the subject of "the social difference that a faith in Christ makes".

The following day, Monday 17 January at 10.30am, Dr Newell will meet with local church leaders at Kilfennan Presbyterian Church for informal discussion on issues effecting the Christian churches generally and in particular in the north west area.

Dr Newell's engagements on this brief visit to the Derry area will conclude on Monday afternoon at 3.00pm with a call to Ard Cluan, a residential home for older people run by the Presbyterian Residential Trust on the Limavady Road.

Dr Newell will conduct a short service and meet with house committee members, members of staff and the 13 residents. He will also make a presentation to Mrs May McNee who is retiring after giving over 20 years service as a member of the house committee.

Ard Cluan is one of 10 projects run by the Presbyterian Residential Trust providing a range of accommodation for 300 older people around Ireland including a nursing home and sheltered housing as well as residential homes.
