The Presbyterian Board of Youth and Children's Ministry, in association with Scripture Union, the Methodist Church and the Church of Ireland will hold two conferences focusing on children's ministry, one in Belfast and the other in Dublin. The aim of the conferences, entitled "Building Blocks" is to support all those working with children in their local parish, school or community and also to encourage others to be involved in this vital area of church work.
The southern event will take place at St. Patrick's College, Drumcondra, Dublin on Saturday 27th November and the northern conference at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown on Saturday 4th December. Last year over 700 delegates attended the children's ministry conferences and it is hoped that the response will be just as enthusiastic this year.
The key-note speaker at both conferences will be Nick Harding, who has been involved in children's ministry all his adult life. He is a regular contributor to publications such as the Scripture Union SALT materials and Bible reading notes for young people. His wealth of experience in children's ministry includes previous work as a teacher; Diocesan Schools' Officer and Founder Member of Schools' Ministry Network. He is currently working as Children's Mission Support Officer with the Anglican Diocese of Southwell in Nottinghamshire and regularly leads seminars and family celebrations at local and national Christian events.
There will be a wide variety of seminars on topics such as building a children's ministry from scratch, teaching prayer, using drama and music, puppet ministry, new ideas for arts and crafts, last minute ideas for Christmas, nurturing faith and the challenge of the all-age church.
