Presbyterian Moderator, Dr Ken Newell will officially open a new church hall at Aghadowey Presbyterian Church, Coleraine this Saturday 30 October. There will be a short service of thanksgiving and dedication at 3pm followed by refreshments, served in the new hall. Photograph opportunities are available at 2.30pm prior to the service - to arrange please telephone Rev. Robert Kane on 028 7086 8234.
The congregation of 170 families at Aghadowey previously had the use of two halls - one the size of a badminton court with a stage and the other a smaller one used for committee meetings and Bible studies. It was decided that with a growing number of organisations needing to use the space, an extra hall was needed.
The new sports hall has been grant-aided by the Department of Education and cost a total of £370,000 to complete. Organisations that will benefit from the new premises include the Youth Fellowship, Badminton Club, Boys' Brigade, Brownie Guides, Rainbow Guides and Sunday School. Along with the extension is a refurbishment of the existing halls so that facilities now include a new kitchen, new toilet areas, seven classrooms, an office and a large lounge area overlooking the sports hall.
Rev. Robert Kane, minister of Aghadowey, expresses the importance of the new building in the life of the church, "We as a congregation feel that it is vital that our youth work is both relevant for Aghadowey and central to our ministry. The refurbishment and extension to our buildings is hopefully a positive step towards encouraging more youth organisations and achieving this. It is our desire that the church is at the heart of the community here and that people of all ages will be led to a maturity in Christ."
