Moderator To Mark Beginning Of Extension To Kilbride Church Halls

Presbyterian Moderator Dr. Ken Newell will officially carry out the first sod cutting at Kilbride Presbyterian Church to mark the start of renovation work to the church halls this Saturday 23 October. The existing church hall will be renovated and an extension will also be added. The Moderator will take part in a short service at 11am and the Mayor and Mayoress of Newtownabbey will be in attendance. Photograph opportunities will be available at 11.20am following the service.

The accommodation at Kilbride currently consists of a small hall and a kitchen. When the refurbishment and extension are completed there will be a new hall and youth centre as well as 4 classrooms and a new kitchen. The work will cost approximately £500,000 and should be completed by July 2005.

Rev. George Moore, minister of Kilbride, outlines the reasons behind the building work, "Doagh is currently a growth area with new housing developments bringing a lot more young families to the vicinity. Our church halls particularly cater for youth organisations and lately we have been finding that we are just too cramped in the space we have. We decided to renovate and extend our premises to facilitate the growing numbers coming along to organisations such as Sunday School, crëche, Boys' Brigade and Girls' Brigade. We as a church are very encouraged that we have had to take such measures and hope that the new improvements will benefit our work amongst the surrounding community."
