Presbyterian Moderator Dr Ivan McKay will travel coast to coast this Sunday, 6 July with a whirlwind visit to Northern Ireland seaside holiday destinations.
On Sunday morning he is on the north coast at Castlerock where he will preach at morning worship at 11.30 and bring the greetings of the General Assembly to the congregation and their minister Rev Chris Aitcheson.
However, the Moderator will have little time to sample the delights of sand and surf as he heads the 100 miles or so south to the kingdom of Mourne and Newcastle Presbyterian Church in time for the evening service at 7.00pm where he will take part in the worship alongside the congregation's minister Rev Ivan Patterson.
Among summer activities planned in Newcastle is a week long visit by College student's from Nashville who will be leading a young people's camp for members of the congregation and the many visitors to the town.
'While most congregations are not as busy during the summer months, it is quite different in these seaside congregations,' says Dr McKay. 'With an influx of visitors and holidaymakers there are great opportunities for the church and by my visits I want to encourage these 'holiday' congregations in all that they do.'
