Moderator Attends Scottish Assembly

As the church conference season kicks into gear Presbyterian Moderator Dr Russell Birney travels to Scotland this week for the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

The Church of Scotland is considered the mother church of Irish Presbyterianism and it is traditional that the Moderator of each church attends one another's Assembly.

Dr Birney will be present at the installation of Rev Professor Iain Torrance who will then be in Belfast at the beginning of June for the installation of Dr Ivan McKay as Irish Presbyterian Moderator.

During his week in Edinburgh Dr Birney also hopes to address the Scottish Assembly on the present situation in Northern Ireland.

As well as Mrs Arline Birney, the Moderator will be accompanied by his senior chaplain Rev Ronnie Hetherington and the Clerk of Session of Dr Birney's High Kirk congregation, Mr Billy Henry.
