What do you call a large group of Presbyterians in one place? According to the Sunday School Department in Church House it's a Fun Day!
Thousands of Presbyterians from all over Ireland are expected at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum at Cultra on Saturday 10 May between 10.30am and 4.30pm for the Church's annual fun day.
The event attracts all ages and combined with the usual attractions of the park are displays and events that include aerial slides, bungee runs, a mountain bike obstacle course, soak a friend, street drama, parachute games, court room drama and music from the Salvation Army Band. There really is something for all the family to do!
Organising the mammoth event along with a team of 200 helpers is the Presbyterian Church's Sunday School Organiser, Rev Ian McKee. " On the day, to see the fun and enthusiasm etched on people's faces makes all the hours of detailed organisation worthwhile. Many of our Sunday Schools were finding it more and more difficult to find somewhere suitable for the traditional Sunday School Outing and the idea of a fun day has been a great success providing a safe venue with lots of things to do."
The fun day also highlights the Sunday School and Youth Project for this year 'Moving On' which is supporting Church projects at home and overseas. The overseas focus will provide transport for church workers in India, Malawi, Pakistan and Kenya. 'Moving On' hopes to buy bicycles and motorbikes for ministers, doctors and health visitors who often have to travel out from their towns and cities to bring care to people. At home money raised will go to refurbish the Presbyterian youth centre at Rostrevor which is used by groups from all over Ireland for weekends and longer stays.
Entrance to the Fun Day at Cultra is by admission sticker only purchased in advance from the Sunday School Office in Church House, tel: 028 9032 2284 or email: <sundayschool@presbyterianireland.org>. The cost is £3.00 (€4.50) per person with children under 5 free.
