New Prayer Book For Presbyterians

Covering overseas work in 20 countries and the activities of 17 Presbyterian agencies in Ireland, the Points for Prayer Handbook 2003, produced by the Presbyterian Church has a wealth of information about the life and witness of the denomination.

Designed to help its 15,000 readers to pray in an informed way for the work of the church it features two pages, one about home projects, the other about overseas work for every day of the month.

"Information is one of the basic needs for intercessory prayer," explains Stephen Lynas, the Presbyterian Church's Information Officer, "and this book gives people up to date facts so that they can pray effectively and knowledgeably for the work of the Presbyterian Church at home in Ireland and around the world in places as far apart as Jamaica and Kathmandu.

"Again and again staff at home and our partners in mission overseas tell us of the very real support they have experienced through the knowledge that people are praying for them."

On each 'home' page there are suggested points for prayer while on the 'overseas' pages there is helpful background information from which broad areas of prayer can be identified.

For more specific, up to the minute overseas prayer focus the Presbyterian Church provides Prayerline which is issued weekly. This can be accessed as a recorded message by telephoning (028) 9032 6009, in print on the Presbyterian Church's web site at www.presbyterianireland.org or direct by email from the overseas office. Email: overseas@presbyterianireland.org.
