Junior BB Raise £22,500 To Send Aid To Africa

Presbyterian Moderator Dr Russell Birney received a delegation from the Junior Section of the Boys' Brigade at Church House on Tuesday 22 October and was presented with a cheque for £22,500 to help with overseas work.

The money was raised by members of the Junior Section throughout Ireland last Christmas and will be specifically used to pay for the transportation of medical and educational supplies to churches in Africa through the 'Containers for Africa" project.

Recently a container packed full of medical supplies and equipment was sent to three Church hospitals in the north of Malawi while another container full of educational materials including textbooks and computers is awaiting shipment.

While most of the supplies are donated by local companies and organisations the cost of shipping each container is about £3,500 and the funds raised by the boys will pay for the transportation costs.

Presenting the cheque to the Moderator Dr Russell Birney are (l-r) Ian Hutchinson and Gregg Stewart from 1st Lurgan, Philip Dickey, 4th Ballymena and James Dobbin, 1st Ballywatt
