Presbyterian Moderator Dr Russell Birney will be the guest of the Second Donegore congregation this Sunday, October 13 at 11.30am, when, in addition to conducting their harvest service, he will open and dedicate an extension to the existing church building.
Situated close to Templepatrick, Second Donegore has a membership of some 200 families and while the congregation has other hall accommodation the rooms at the church were inadequate. Consequently, a small building adjoining the church was demolished and replaced with a Minister's Room, Choir Room and facilities for people with disability.
In addition the area at the front of the church has been enlarged with the removal of several pews to make more space for those conducting worship.
The project has cost about £85,000 but will be welcomed by all in the congregation. "Aside from the requirements of legislation the church must provide appropriate facilities for everyone coming to church including people with disability," says the congregation's minister Rev James Tosh.
"In addition the space at the front of the church was becoming quite inadequate for worship and it will of great benefit to those leading our Sunday services to have more space at the front of the church."
Second Donegore's day of celebration will continue in the evening at 7.00pm when the guest preacher will be former Moderator and minister of First Antrim, Dr John Dixon.
