Presbyterian Moderator Dr Alastair Dunlop has encouraged Presbyterians to join with others in the peaceful anti violence rallies planned for lunchtime on Friday. 'These rallies,' says Dr Dunlop, 'provide us with the opportunity to join with others in opposing threats to public servants, intimidation and racketeering, rioting and public disorder.'
The full text of Dr Dunlop's statement follows:
'As Moderator, I would encourage Presbyterians to join other citizens in civil society in the peaceful public demonstrations planned for Friday at lunchtime against those who seek to exploit and control this society through violence.
'These rallies provide us with the opportunity to join with others in opposing threats to public servants, intimidation and racketeering, rioting and public disorder.
'It also shows our support for a society which is marked by cooperation, building confidence across divisions and replacing fear with trust.
'I would particularly ask congregations to pray about these matters in public worship on Sunday.'
