New Courses To Develop Spiritual Life

Two new courses are being launched this week which aim to develop the spiritual life of Christians as they live out their faith. Organized by the Christian Training Centre of the Presbyterian Church, the two courses look at aspects of the Old Testament and foundational principles for spiritual development.

Entitled 'Going For Growth' the first course began last night (Thursday 10th January) and will last for six weeks. It is being taught by well known speaker and writer Rev Howard Lewis, currently Associate Minister in Bloomfield Presbyterian Church. Howard will be helping participants focus on the importance of Scripture, the role of prayer, dealing with painful experiences and the importance of rightly discerning God's will.

The second course 'From Paradise to the Promised Land' begins on Monday 4th February and will focus on the first five books of the Bible, taught by Dr Desi Alexander. Commenting on the course Desi said;

"To read the Bible, especially the New Testament, without understanding the contents of Genesis to Deuteronomy is like trying to build a house without laying a solid foundation. Drawing on the best aspects of contemporary scholarship this course seeks to shed light on this often neglected part of the Bible."

The six week course also runs on Wednesday afternoons , beginning on February 6th.

Meanwhile, the Moderator Dr Alastair Dunlop will get an opportunity to cheer on the Ulster rugby team at Ravenhill tonight (Friday). A rugby fanatic, Dr Dunlop has been invited to officially meet the team at a post reception following the European Cup tie against Treviso.
