An eight member choir from the heart of Africa are set to tour Northern Ireland over the next two weeks. Embangweni Choir, from Embangweni Mission Station, Malawi, have been invited to perform at Presbyterian Churches across the province, including dates in Coleraine, Derry, Bangor, Omagh and the Greater Belfast area.
The choir is made up of teachers and a pupil from the Robert Laws Secondary School along with staff from the Embangweni Hospital. Both the hospital and the school have been supported by the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, who have supplied personnel and financial support to Embangweni for many years. During each performance the choir sing local songs in English and in the local Timbuka dialect. Rev Mwale, head of the Mission Station will also give a short talk or sermon as the Choir perform in different venues.
Having arrived last Sunday, the Choir have been entertaining Presbyterians around the Ballymena area. This Sunday they commence a busy singing schedule at Hamilton Road, Bangor followed by a visit to Railway Street, Lisburn in the evening. Their schedule then runs as follows:
Monday 8th October, Friends School, Lisburn 9.00am, meeting with Mayor 11am
Tuesday 9th, Lagan College, 9am then afternoon visit to St Joseph's PS, Crossgar
Wednesday 10th evening concert Whiteabbey Presbyterian
Thursday 11th First Omagh Presbyterian evening concert
Friday 12th Overseas Board Missionary Conference, Loughry College
Saturday 13th /Sunday 14th Clougher and Glenhoy harvest service
Monday 15th visit to Derry and Donegal
Tuesday 16th Greenisland Primary 1pm, followed by 1st Carrick PWA 8pm
Wednesday 17th New Row Presbyterian, Coleraine, evening concert
Sunday 21st Ballyloughan 11.30am Bangor West 7pm
Monday 22nd Royal Children's Hospital 10am
