Presbyterian Moderator Dr Alastair Dunlop has expressed the condolences of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland to the people of the USA in letters to the American Ambassador in Dublin, the American Consul in Belfast and the Clerks of the Presbyterian Church in the USA and the Presbyterian Church in America.
The full text of his letter follows:
"I am monitoring the continuing reports of the unbelievable tragedy which has struck your country.
"I find it difficult to find words to express the abhorrence I feel at these evil deeds and I can only guess at the depths of suffering, of pain and of grief which are effecting many individuals as well as your whole nation.
"We grieve with our brothers and sisters throughout the USA and assure you that our people will be walking with you all through this dark valley. We will uphold you as a nation in your devastating national grief and also as a church as you minister to people in their shock and human need.
"Our thoughts and prayers are especially with those who have suffered personally.
"May the God of all grace strengthen and keep you at this time."
