The small rural congregation of Garryduff Presbyterian will celebrate the opening of their new church building on Saturday 15th September 2001. A special service of dedication will take place at 3pm led by Presbyterian Moderator Dr Alistair Dunlop.
Costing over £220,000, work done on the church represents a complete renovation of the old building, originally built in 1847. This entailed a total 'gutting' of the interior down to the old stone structure and a refurbishment of every aspect of the church, with the exception of historic stained glass windows previously gifted to the congregation. As well as re-plastering and re-wiring, the construction also sees the addition of a minister's room.
Funds for the building work were entirely raised by direct giving from within the North Antrim congregation of 180 families, something minister Rev John Gilkinson appreciates: "Local people have found things difficult in recent times with Foot and Mouth causing great concern amongst the farming community. That Garryduff congregation have been prepared to give so much is testament to their faith and the wonderful provision of God in the life of our church."
The weekend of thanksgiving continues on the Sunday morning as Moderator of Presbytery Rev Ian McNie leads the 12pm service. At night former policeman and renowned Gospel singer Ben Forde hosts an evening of praise commencing at 7pm.
