A small Presbyterian church in County Monaghan will be hosting a unique praise event this Sunday night (August 5th 2001) led by world renowned singer George Hamilton IV. The international Country and Western star will be presenting a 'Back Porch' Style Summer Evening of Country Gospel Music and Old Time Hymns at the beautiful scenic riverside church of Stonebridge Presbyterian. The church is located three miles outside of Clones on the Monaghan Road the event commences at 8pm.
All age groups are encouraged to come to the evening of praise, which falls conveniently on a bank holiday weekend for the Irish Republic. Admission is absolutely free, though an offering will be taken for a charity after expenses have been covered.
Organising the Praise Evening is neighbouring Cavan minister Rev Jean Mackerel who expects a big crowd for the famous country singers visit. She comments:
"It's not very often that someone of George's stature visits a relatively rural backwater such as ours! However, George has actually been to Cavan before, and left such an impression that when the opportunity of inviting him arose, we just had to have him back. This time our friends in County Monaghan will get the chance to experience George and his singing in Stonebridge and we really hope that it will be a time of great fellowship together."
George Hamilton IV has been performing for decades, mainly in the Country and Western scene. Of recent years he has specialized in Country Gospel music, attracting a new audience base who appreciate his devotional style. George has toured throughout the world and was the first Country star to play behind the old 'Iron Curtain'. His son George V, has also toured with his father's back up band , reaching the charts in the late eighties.
