£220,000 Extension Opens At Ballygawley Presbyterian

This Saturday, 23 June at 2.30pm, Presbyterian Moderator, Dr Alastair Dunlop will open a £220,000 extension to the church halls at Ballygawley Presbyterian Church.

The Smith Memorial Halls, originally built in 1910 have been completely refurbished and additional accommodation including meeting rooms, a kitchen and toilets have been added.

For the congregation's minister Rev Norman McCormick this is a significant time both in the history of the congregation and his own ministry. ' Investing this amount of money for a small congregation of only 90 families shows our commitment to the ongoing work and witness of the church in this area,' says Mr McCormick. 'For me personally I'm delighted that it has been achieved before I retire in the next few months and that the facilities are now in place for a new minister to expand the activities that we run here in the church.'

In addition to opening the halls the Moderator will be asked to dedicate a number of gifts generously donated by members of the congregation in memory of family members. These include chairs, clocks, a display cabinet and a lectern. The new meeting room is to be named in memory of a former minister of the congregation Rev James Curry.

Also to be unveiled on Saturday is a window in memory of local doctor and congregational elder Dr George Gillespie who died in 1987.

'I'm delighted to be able to bring the good wishes of the entire Presbyterian Church to the congregation in Ballygawley this Saturday,' says Moderator Dr Alastair Dunlop. 'This is a major achievement for the congregation and will stand them well in the future as they continue their ministry in this community.'
