Dozens of Presbyterian Congregations from throughout Ireland are expected to gather early to celebrate Easter at dawn this Sunday morning, (April 13th 2001). The dawn services, which mostly commence at 6.30am were originally started by youth groups in respective presbyteries across the island. This Sunday's services however, are organized by different members of the Presbyterian Church, with a number also organized with support from other denominations.
For most gatherings, the Easter Dawn service will comprise a reading, praise and prayer, in a short act of public witness to the Risen Christ. A hearty breakfast will also be provided at most of the events.
All of the Dawn services are at 6.30am unless otherwise stated:
Ballymena: Slemish
East Belfast: Henry Jones Playing Fields
North Belfast: Lough Shore
Down: Raffery Car Park
Monaghan: 2nd Ballybay Carpark (7am)
Templepatrick: Dunamuggy, Donegore
Dromore: Hillhall Car Park
Ards: Ballyholme Beach
Route: Ballintoy Harbour
Whitehead: HarbourCommenting on the services Rev Trevor Gribben, minister of Whiteabbey Presbyterian Church says: "It can be a bit cold at our local service on the Lough Shore, but I know with other congregations gathered at dawn, we can really praise God with warm hearts. Many of our churches rightly celebrate Christmas at events in December. By supporting these services on Sunday morning we can also emphasize the equal joy of Easter."
