New Financial Secretary Takes Up Duties

The new financial secretary of the Presbyterian Church, Mr Clive Knox, has officially taken up his duties following a commissioning service in Church House, Belfast, yesterday, Wednesday 3 January.

An accountant for some 17 years Mr Knox succeeds Mr Hilton Henry who retired as the financial head of Northern Ireland's largest protestant denomination after 10 years in the post

Born in Larne and educated at Larne Grammar School and the University of Ulster, Mr Knox is the first non-Presbyterian to hold this post. Reflecting this, former Methodist President and Mr Knox's own minister Rev Kenneth Best took part in the commissioning service alongside Presbyterian Moderator Dr Trevor Morrow and Clerk of Assembly Dr Sam Hutchinson.

While responsibility for the financial affairs of the church resides with the Board of Finance and Administration the financial secretary oversees the day to day financial administration of the Presbyterian Church which has a payroll of some 800 ministers and missionaries, an annual income and expenditure of over £40m and pension fund investments of £40m.
