Presbyterian Moderator Dr Trevor Morrow faces two days and two nights of teenage exuberance as he visits the annual "MAD" weekend organised by the Presbyterian Church Youth Board, commencing Friday 27th October 2000. The weekend is staged at the University of Ulster, Coleraine and runs until Sunday afternoon. Over seven hundred members of youth groups and church fellowships from across Ireland will attend the event which is heavily over - subscribed.
Now in its second year, the MAD weekend features a heady mix of fun coupled with serious discussions on a wide range of issues which affect teenagers today. Assault courses, 'mind benders' and bungee runs should be enough to exhaust some of the participants. Others will be challenged by debate on social action, drug culture and Christian basics.
Main speaker for the weekend will be Rev Steve Stockman, Dean of Derryvolgie Halls at Queens University, Belfast. Steve will be helped with praise backing from popular youth worship team 'Shane and Alistair.'
Not content however, to observe the MAD weekend from the sidelines, Dr Morrow will himself contribute with a seminar entitled "Steamy Windows," a look at sex and relationships within a Christian context. The Moderator will co - present the seminar with Carys, his wife, who also leads her own workshop on "Coping with Teen Stress."
Commenting on the weekend Dr Morrow says:
"It is so refreshing to see young people from the church confront the issues of today 'head on'. They live in a world of greater choice than ever before - we hope this MAD weekend will inform them sof how to think Biblically about their lifestyle."
