'In all my working life I've been involved with people and in helping them maximise their potential. Alongside that I've always had a strong interest in third world issues and my new role combines both of those, working within a people based organisation that has strong links with countries all around the world.
'My recent work has been in the business sector developing the management skills particularly of women. However, because of my Christian beliefs, I've always been keen to see how skills can be grown within the church as people develop their God given talents alongside their deepening faith. Sometimes we all need a little encouragement and help. That's why this Act of Commissioning is so important to me in seeking God's help and guidance for the work that lies ahead.'
With over 500 branches throughout Ireland the aim of the PWA is to unite women of the church in the dedication of their lives to Jesus Christ and His service in the home, community, workplace and church. Through PWA women share in the mission of the church at home and overseas through prayer and financial support. It also provides a link with the women of other churches in Ireland and throughout the world. The organisation helps support over 80 Presbyterian missionaries in India, Jamaica, Malawi and Nepal as well as 24 deaconesses and 1 women worker in Ireland.
'The role of woman has changed out of all recognition since the PWA was established over 100 years ago. Our organisation must reflect those changes so that our members realise they have a vital part to play in the life of the church and beyond using our gifts for the glory of God and to the benefit of our churches, communities, workplaces and families,' says Mrs Myers.
