Former Moderator Dr John Dixon has issued a warning call to Presbyterians, asking them to avoid being "short sighted" with regard to Overseas Mission. Dr Dixon issued his warning in the latest edition of World News, a newspaper produced by the Presbyterian Church's Overseas Board.
Dr Dixon is Convenor of the Overseas Board. He comments;
"The growth of the church today is on a scale that is unique in the history of the world. In our society, which is sceptical, cynical and pessimistic in outlook, believers must avoid being squeezed into the mould of worldly thinking."
Dr Dixon urged church members to consider the many opportunities available for overseas work and said that the need for long term cross cultural commitment is "very real". He concluded:
"You cannot worship God aright with short sightedness. In every public act of worship you engage with a God who so loved the world that He gave His only Son. Our Father has a missionary heart that embraces the entire world. He wants His children to share His passion and to fulfil His mission."
Other articles in World News feature comprehensive facts about mission work across the globe from Thailand to France. Of special interest will be a feature on the crisis in Indonesia and a contribution for current Moderator Dr Trevor Morrow, who calls the church to prayer for mission, especially for the suffering church.
