Presbyterian Moderator Dr Trevor Morrow makes two visits in the Greater Belfast and North Down area this Sunday 3rd September 2000. They represent his first opportunity to meet with two historic congregations as he brings greetings from the General Assembly.
On Sunday morning Dr Morrow will take part in worship with First Bangor Presbyterian congregation, service commencing at 10.30am. As with many congregations, this Sunday morning marks the start of a busy new church year for First Bangor. Many members will be preparing to re-engage in the many different aspects of congregational life spanning all age groups. Dr Morrow is of course no stranger to Bangor, having begun his ministerial life around the corner at Hamilton Road Presbyterian Church.
Sunday night marks a very special occassion in the life of Glengormley Presbyterian Church as the Moderator opens and dedicates a new church hall, service beginning 7pm. The hall has actually been re-constructed on the site of the old Glengormley church itself and includes a fully refurbished kitchen area, amongst other amenities. The building is to be named the Dunlop Memorial Hall, marking the integration of Dunlop Memorial Presbyterian Church with Glengormley Presbyterian, after the former church closed last year. Proceeds from the sale of that church funded the construction of the new hall. Minister of Glengormley Presbyterian Rev Ronnie Hetherington comments:
"After thirty six years of witness Dunlop Memorial closed last year. The members of that church however, now play a fully integrated role in Glengormley. By naming our new hall after Dunlop Memorial we continue to celebrate not just the past legacy, but the substantial current contribution that the Dunlop members make to Glengormley. We're delighted that the Moderator can join with our thanksgiving on Sunday evening."
