Hitchin' A Ride On Route 66

This weekend around 100 young Presbyterians will be joined by visitors from Kenya and Hungary travelling along Route 66.

But before thoughts turn to the legendary US auto route this Route 66 is accessed in Cookstown, Northern Ireland.

It's a weekend of bible teaching, praise, worship and fun organised by the Youth Board of the Presbyterian Church and taking place in Loughry College, Cookstown from Thursday 24 August until Monday 28 August.

But why Route 66? Roz Stirling, Youth Officer for the Presbyterian Church explains. 'Route 66 is the longest road in America connecting the east and west coasts of the US while Route 66, The Bible Conference, is a journey through the 66 books of the bible which connects the message of the word to the culture of today.'

The weekend is being led by Rev John Woodside, minister of Kilkenny, with other speakers including David Montgomery, Gary Millar and Tara Smith.

The international aspect is provided by two youth teams visiting the Presbyterian Church from Kenya and Hungary. Both groups have been here for two weeks and have been taking part in congregational activities throughout Ireland. A team from the Youth Board visited Kenya in July.
