Broughshane Resounds To Presbyterian Song!

In a departure from conventional evening services, a County Antrim church has decided to engage in outdoor worship during August Sunday evenings.

Instead of meeting in their traditional building, members of Second Broughshane Presbyterian Church have opted to celebrate their faith in the public car park, using a mixture of praise songs and a brief Bible based message. The outdoor services will take place on Sunday 13th and 20th August at 8pm.

Minister of Second Broughshane, Rev Alistair Beattie comments:

"This is the third year that we have tried the outdoor summer service and we've found it to be an enjoyable time. It's very informal and allows for non - church goers or occassional attenders to participate freely in our mixture of contemporary choruses and traditional songs. People from a wide variety of backgrounds come along and can sit in their cars or join in with us in seating provided. We very much see it as an effective form of public witness and outreach - providing the weather is nice!"

Outdoor services were once very much part of local tradition in the Braid Valley area, particularly in the 1859 revival period. Second Broughshane congregation itself was established as a result of renewed interest in the Gospel during 1859.
