Moderator Makes Youth A Priority

Dr Trevor Morrow begins his year of official duties this Saturday night (17.06.00, 7:00pm) as he joins with 200 young people and their families in Ballyhenry Presbyterian Church for a service to commission those who will serve as Presbyterian volunteers this summer. Dr Morrow will lead the congregation in prayer for the outreach volunteers and then deliver a special commissioning address.

Many will work as members of the Youth Board Summer Outreach Teams working with churches across Ireland who wish to embark on evangelistic activities in their respective areas. The Outreach Team members can expect to gain valuable experience as they participate in street evangelism and childens holiday clubs in varied areas such as Portlaoise, Aughnacloy, North Belfast, Lucan and Ballycastle.

Others will travel with the Overseas Board to destinations as far afield as Kenya, Malawi, Ukraine, Romania, Czech Republic, Jamaica and Brazil where they will serve as short term helpers to Presbyterian Missionairies based in those countries.

Commenting on the Outreach Teams, Roz Stirling from the Presbyterian Youth Office said:

"These teams, whether at home here in Ireland or further afield provide excellent training for younger members of our denomination who take their discipleship seriously. We find that many volunteers return after a summer away more experienced and more eager to apply what they have learned in their home congregations."
