From Hill To Mountain For Moderator

This Sunday, 7th May 2000, Presbyterian Moderator Dr John Lockington visits two congregations either end of Northern Ireland's eastern coast.

During the morning Dr Lockington makes the short journey from his home in Larne to Craigyhill Presbyterian Church, situated on the edge of the County Antrim town. The Moderator will be well known to many members of the congregation, not least Craigyhill's minister, Rev Jimmy Johnstone, who has served as Chaplain to Dr Lockington throughout his moderatorial year. The service commences at 11.30am.

From Craigyhill in the morning, the Moderator then travels to the foot of the Mourne mountains to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Rostrevor Presbyterian Church.

Accompanying Dr Lockington as guests will be the praise choir from Mourne Presbyterian Church in Kilkeel who will perform special items for the thanksgiving service. Also joining the congregation in celebration will be Mr Michael Morgan who is the grandson of Rev Thomas Morgan-Smith, the first Presbyterian minister in the village. Michael will present the current minister Rev Brian McMillan with a framed picture of his grandfather as a gift to the congregation. The service, which starts at 4pm concludes with a supper afterwards.
