Details have just been unveiled for this year's family Fun Day organised by the Sunday School office of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. The charity fund raising event which takes place on Saturday 13th May 2000, is expected to attract over 5000 children along with family members, Sunday School teachers and participants from across Ireland.
This year the Fun Day, now in its' seventh year takes place in a brand new setting, the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum at Cultra, County Down. It also marks the introduction of some new activities which will suit all tastes.
For the active, army climbing walls, aerial slides or Irish dancing are just some of the choices. Budding Michael Owens can try their hand at a Penalty Spot Kick competition which will be overseen by ex Glentoran star Johnnie Jamison. If that's not enough, the usual bouncy castle or orienteering challenges should tire the Presbyterian youngsters out.
Along with the more physical pursuits, this year also sees a full programme of traditional items such as face painting, story telling, cooking and butter making. During the afternoon Presbyterian Moderator Dr John Lockington will take part in a short time of praise at Kilmore Church of Ireland which is part of the Folk and Transport Park.
Proceeds from the Fun Day will go locally towards the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice, Stewart's Hospital and School, Dublin. Funds will also be raised for the production of Sunday School materials for use in partner churches of the Presbyterian Church in Brazil, Malawi and Jamaica.
Co-ordinating the mammoth event is Rev Ian McKee, Sunday School Organiser of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. He comments:
"It's always a challenge to put together a Fun Day full of fresh activities every year. With our move to the splendid location of Cultra and the inclusion of many new ideas for all the family it should be a great day out!"
