Renowned Writer Refutes Atheism Claims

An internationally known writer and broadcaster has criticised the modern assumption that society no longer believes in God. John Blanchard, co-founder of Christian Ministries, records his analysis in a new book to be launched at the Assembly Hall, Church House, Belfast on Tuesday 21st March at 7.45pm.

The 656 page hard back book entitled "Does God Believe in Atheists?" is John Blanchard's twenty second major publication. In total, nearly fifteen million copies of his books have been printed in some forty languages. He has been invited to speak in Belfast by the Evangelism Board of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.

In his book, Blanchard traces the development of atheistic thinking from the 'golden age' of Greek philosophy to the recent influences of Nietzsche, Camus and Jean Paul Sartre. He pinpoints the rise of Darwin's theory of evolution and uncovers the claims of contemporary exponents such as Richard Dawkins.

Blanchard however remains unconvinced that people across the world are rejecting God in the large numbers that society might suppose.

"Certainly many people especially young people in Ireland, are drifting from faith in traditional religion, but this does not emphatically lead to full blown godlessness. Evidence indicates that modern people have a huge hunger for spirituality and a desire to know a 'god' of some sort. A major reason for declining numbers in the traditional church is because the 'case for God' has not been put convincingly enough."

Rev John Parkes, Evangelism Convenor of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland comments: "We're thrilled that a commentator of John's calibre has decided to come here to discuss an issue of such concern. We hope people from all walks of life will take the opportunity to come and hear him speak."
