Presbyterian Moderator Calls For Mozambique Donations

In light of the disaster in Mozambique, Presbyterian Moderator Dr John Lockington has urged church members to give generously to relief agencies, TEAR Fund and Christian Aid as they struggle against the effects of the flooding. Dr Lockington issued the call by letter to every minister throughout Ireland, asking congregations to give either by retiring church offering; through the Finance Office in Church House, Belfast; or directly to the charities concerned. In his letter the Moderator said:

"Nearly a million people in Mozambique have been affected by the worst flooding in the region since 1951. Whole villages and communities are submerged in water, homes have been destroyed and crops ruined. Thankfully, relatively few lives have been lost, but people are in desperate need of food and clean water. The risk of malaria and cholera is very high and medicines are in short supply."

"I am sure that people would wish to respond to this desperate situation and I would hope that at congregation level we can respond in Christ's Name."
