Old class mates from Ballygowan Presbyterian Church Sabbath School will meet for a special reunion this Saturday 4th March 2000 in Ballygowan Church Hall. The reunion, which takes place at 7.30pm, marks the launch of 'Reflections', a look at Ballygowan Sabbath School over the last one hundred years.
Several special guests have been invited to the reunion including Presbyterian Moderator Dr John Lockington. Another former Moderator in attendance will be Dr WM Craig, who prior to his ministry studies was a Sabbath School teacher and Secretary in Ballygowan Presbyterian Church.
Many other former teachers and pupils will also be at the reunion which will feature praise items from the current Sunday School choir. A special 'stand up' slot will be provided by Raymond McGowan, an elder in Dundonald Presbyterian Church.
'Reflections' is an 88 page publication containing over 30 pictures from the last century. It is believed that at one stage Ballygowan Sabbath School was one of the biggest in the General Assembly. Today, the School still numbers around 150 children every Sunday and contributions for present teachers have been included in the book. 'Reflections' has been compiled by Sunday School teachers past and present ) Denis Porter. He comments:
"Saturday night will give us an opportunity to thank God for his faithfulness in the past and renew our hope in Him for future blessing. It really will be a happy occassion with people from all walks of life and all ages, gathering to acknowledge our lessons learnt and friendships made in Ballygowan Sabbath School."
