Presbyterian Moderator Dr John Lockington embarks on a tour of the Foyle Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland this Sunday, 30th January 2000. The tour, which will last seven days, includes special church services, meetings with local industry, schools, emergency services and two local hospitals.
During his year of office, the Moderator makes official week long visits to three presbyteries. Before Christmas Dr Lockington was in the Presbytery of Armagh and in March he will visit the Templepatrick Presbytery in South Antrim.
"These visits are a good opportunity for Moderator's to meet people away from the church environment, in their places of work or in schools or homes," explained Dr Lockington. "The other aspect to the visits is to meet with ministers and elders and to hear first hand their point of view about church issues and other matters and to encourage them in ther work." Of particular interest will be Dr Lockington's meeting with Boyd Douglas at Ardnariff Farm to discuss agricultural concerns. Earlier this week (Tuesday 25th January) Dr Lockington met with Will Taylor of the Ulster Farmers Union in Belfast.
