From The United States To Bellaghy

Top Theological Teacher Comes To Mid Ulster Village!

Two Bellaghy churches haves joined forces to host a special week of teaching with a well known theological teacher. Entitled "Back to Basics" the week has been organised by Bellaghy Presbyterian Church along with Ballyscullion Church of Ireland and features five week night talks by Rev Dr Andrew McGowan from the Highland Theological College, Scotland. The talks commence next Monday evening (31st Jan) running through until Friday and start at 8pm each night in Bellaghy Presbyterian Church.

For Dr McGowan, the visit to Bellaghy will represent a considerable change in climate, as he travels directly from the United States, where he has been lecturing in the Reformed Theological Seminary at Jackson, Mississippi. It is not his first time in Bellaghy however. Dr McGowan will be remembered by many for his robust charge to the new minister during the installation of Rev Noel Agnew in the local Presbyterian Church last September.

The "Back to Basics" theme for the week will offer church members an opportunity to be re-acquainted with fundamental Christian doctrines. Dr McGowan teaches systematic theology in Dingwall where he resides. He was previously a parish minister with the Church of Scotland, working in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Mallaig.

For Rev Noel Agnew the week also offers a chance to host a long time friend. He comments:

"Andrew and I have known each other for years and it's a real privilege that he should take a week out of his busy schedule to come down and meet with us here in Bellaghy. It is a real privilege too, that we should team up with the Church of Ireland members in the area. I know that they and anyone else in Bellaghy who wishes to come along will really enjoy hearing Andrew speak."
