Young Presbyterians Get An All Star Show For Christmas!

Time was when young Presbyterians celebrated Christmas with a polite party in a cold church hall. These days things are a little different, as the Presbyterian Church in Ireland Youth Board prepare to open the doors of Church House, Belfast for the third annual TGI Christmas this Friday 17th December at 7.45pm.

Over one thousand young Presbyterians are expected at the sell out celebration of Christmas which features top music, interactive crowd games and an unusual 'millennium dome' feature.

Chief amongst the musical guests are high flying American outfit All Star United, who purvey a strong guitar based power pop sound. Their album "Anthems for the Human Race" has sold well and the band arrive in Northern Ireland knowing they can expect a popular reception at TGI Christmas.

In support come Booley, who travel from the not so far reaches of East Belfast. Fronted by renowned song writer Peter Wilson, Booley play a composed mix of electric and accoustic tunes and have secured support to performers such as Brian Kennedy amongst others.

The 'millennium dome' feature is not the giant construct that some imagine squeezed into Church House for the night! Rather, it represents the bald head of Presbyterian minister Rev Steve Stockman who will have his hair shaved off before the expectant crowd - but only if he gets £3,000 on the night! All money raised goes to a Habitat for Humanity housing development in South Africa, which young Presbyterians hope to help build next summer.

Roz Stirling, from the Presbyterian Church in Ireland Youth Office comments:

"Friday night really represents a break from the convention for many young members of our church. We're glad we have the opportunity to encourage young Christians to thank God for Christmas in a way which reflects their cultural background. We know that people are travelling from all across Ireland to make the event so there will be an opportunity for plenty of laughter too."
