In an effort to raise £3000 for a South African building project, long haired troubadour and occassional Presbyterian minister Rev Steve Stockman is offering to have his hair shaved off!
The event is expected to take place during the TGI Christmas Youth Celebration at Church House, Belfast on Friday 17th December, which features a host of musical guests including top American outfit, All Star United. All money raised from Rev Stockman's hair cut will go towards constructing a Habitat for Humanity housing development in Cape Town which young Irish Presbyterians will help to build over a three week period next summer.
"Stocki" however will not part with his hair easily! The presenter of Radio Ulster's award winning 'Rhythm and Soul' show will resist all calls to smarten up if the neccessary funds fail to arrive! An urgent call is therefore issued from the Youth Office of the Presbyterian Church for money by Friday week... otherwise the man with a Ballymena accent based in Derryvolgie Halls, remains in his own words, "a scruffy disgrace".
TGI Christmas has become a firm fixture in the calender of younger Presbyterians. The evening celebration of Christ's birth features multi media presentations, live music, drama, comedy and epilogue. A few tickets are still available for the event and can be purchased from the Youth Office at Church House, Belfast, BT1 6DW. Telephone (028) 9032 2284.
