A special service will take place this Saturday 27th November at Mersey Street Presbyterian Church, as the congregation prepare to celebrate the opening of a newly refurbished hall at 3pm.
The new "Dalzell Hall" which includes up to date facilities for the disabled, took several months to complete and will eventually cost in excess of £140,000. It represents a complete refurbishment of the old hall which was in an extremely bad state of disrepair, forcing many church based organisations to hire out other premises for their weekly activities.
A special plaque will be unveiled on the Dalzell Hall by Presbyterian Moderator Dr John Lockington at 4pm. Prior to that Dr Lockington will also be taking part in a thanksgiving service during which Mersey Street Presbyterian Church Choir will sing special items of praise. For Mersey Street minister, Rev Bob Hornby, the new facility means a new lease of life for the congregation. He comments:
"We could have completely pulled the old structure down, but that option proved too costly, so we've undertaken a substantial refurbishment instead. In effect it has meant a completely new structure, much more space and the opportunity for our congregation to do new things. We have plans to use this hall for more effective community outreach and we give thanks to God for the opportunity to witness in this part of East Belfast."
