If you're a teenager and a member of a Presbyterian Youth Group then all roads lead to Coleraine this weekend, Friday 29 October to Sunday 31 October, for the MAD weekend.
If the thought of mad teenage Presbyterians worries you then let Roz Stirling, the Church's Youth Officer put you at your ease. 'This is the first 'official' MAD weekend organised by the Presbyterian Church's Youth Board. There may have been other 'unofficial' ones but we take no responsibility for those at all!!' say Roz.
'But more seriously, this is an effort to let Youth Groups bring their young people away for the weekend and the leaders don't have to worry about the organisational details. That's all done for them and it gives the leaders more time to spend with their young people rather that worrying about who is making the lunch or what to do if the weather is bad etc.'
Around 400 teenagers and 100 leaders from all over Ireland have signed up for the weekend. They will be staying in church halls in the Coleraine area and then congregating at the University of Ulster for a whole range of activities including fun events, sporting activities as well as bible teaching and times of praise and worship.
A range of workshops have also been organised to deal with issues like peer pressure, social action, reconciliation, self image and even being a bible biker.
'The great thing about the weekend is that here on one site are a whole variety of top speakers that no one youth group on its own could get together. Everyone will be able to chose what they want to go to and hear about,' added Roz. 'And of course there is all the excitement of having hundreds of young people together having fun as only they know how.'
'It might seem mad to those looking in from outside but I've no doubt we are going to have a great weekend together.'
