The small County Tyrone congregation at Benburb Presbyterian Church will celebrate the opening of a brand new hall this Saturday, 16th October at 8pm. It is the first hall to be constructed for Benburb Presbyterian in their three hundred and thirty year existence and the opening ceremony will be conducted by Presbyterian Moderator Dr John Lockington.
The cost of the new hall amounts to £150,000 although most of that figure has already been raised by direct giving from the sixty families that comprise the congregation.
A wide range of activities which were previously impossible can now become reality for the church, including five-a-side football or badminton in the substantial ground level sports area. An upstairs hall can seat up to fifty people, enabling youth groups, the PWA and other organisations to meet in larger numbers. Kitchen facilities and a new ministers room have also been added on to the new hall.
Minister Rev Laurence Hilditch comments: "This hall really gives us a new lease of life as we witness in the Benburb area. The Kirk Session are considering a wide range of plans including a men's fellowship meal, weekly senior citizen friendship circle, junior CE group and a new youth club. It enables us as a church to offer far more to our members and of course the wider community at large."
Members of the local public will also be able to visit the new hall during a special week of 'Life 2' outreach which Benburb have planned for 7th-14th November, conducted by Rev John Coulter from Coleraine. Various activities have been planned for the week including a table quiz along with two Praise and Gospel services on the concluding Sunday.
As part of their Life 2 outreach Benburb Presbyterian Church have uniquely secured the services of comedy duo Cannon and Ball although the new hall may not cope with the numbers expected! Alternatively, the Royal School Dungannon will be the venue as local Presbyterians host a special prayer breakfast with the comedians on Saturday, 13th November, at 8.30am and an evening show at 7.30pm in Dungannon Leisure Centre.
