Presbyterian Moderator Dr John Lockington has urged everyone to read the Patten Commission Report on Policing in full and to beware of instantaneous comment so that they can come to a balanced judgment of the contents of what will probably be a complex and long document.
The Moderator is also asking people to pray for the officers of the RUC, both past and present, and their families at what will be a particularly difficult time for them
'I would encourage people to prayerfully read the whole report; to beware of instantaneous comment; to be conscious of the matters within it with which they may agree as well as those matters about which they may have concerns and to reach a balanced judgment about its contents,' said the Moderator.
'I would also ask people to pray for the officers of the RUC, both past and present and their families, and anyone associated with the RUC, during what will be a difficult time for them. We must also not forget those officers who have been injured or families bereaved as a result of service in the RUC and be sensitive to their feelings over the coming days.'
