Craigyhill Presbyterian Church in Larne are hosting a special weekend of thanksgiving events commencing this Friday 3rd September 1999. The celebrations have been planned to round off a year of evangelistic outreach into the local community which was part of the "Life 2" initiative of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. Over four hundred families attached to Craigyhill church have been visited as well as hundreds more homes in the local community over the last year.
Guest speaker for the weekend will be Rev Dominic Smart, minister of Gilcomston South Church of Scotland parish in Aberdeen. Although originally from Yorkshire, Dominic studied theology at Aberdeen University and was ordained into the Church of Scotland. He has previously ministered in Edinburgh and Dundee but returned to Aberdeen to serve in Gilcomston South, where he succeeded Rev William Still, one of the most influential Scottish preachers this century. Dominic is currently writing a book on the difficulties of evangelism and is a well known speaker at youth events - many Irish Christians will know him from university days in Scotland.
Three special events have been planned starting on Friday evening with a service of praise and thanksgiving at 7:30pm. On Saturday night the congregation will meet for a fellowship supper also at 7:30pm, musical praise will be provided by the Woodvale Singers. Two services are planned for Sunday at the usual times of 11:30am and 7pm, with Rev Dominic Smart speaking at all events. Commenting on the planned events Rev Jimmy Johnston minister of Craigyhill Presbyterian Church says:
"Over the last year our congregation have been so busy organising different events for people in our part of Larne so this weekend will give us a chance to stop and just thank God for the opportunities that we've had to share Good News. With Dominic Smart, we know we will also enjoy top quality teaching and I would encourage the public to come and hear him."
