Equipping Leaders For The Next Millennium

Major Three Day Conference For Church Youth Workers

"How effectively does your church reach out and relate to the current generation of young people in Ireland today?" That's just one of the questions which will be posed at a major three day youth work conference organised by the Youth Board of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. The conference, entitled 'Equipping leaders for the next millennium' will take place at Stranmillis College, 8-10 September 1999.

The conference is aimed at youth workers, elders, ministers or parents involved in work with teenagers and young adults. It is hoped that Presbyterian congregations from throughout the Down area will be represented, although the event is open to all denominations. Keynote addresses will be supported by a comprehensive seminar programme and every day will conclude with an evening rally at Church House.

Speakers at the three day event include world renowned pastor Gordon McDonald from Grace Chapel, Lexington, Massachusetts, Andy Hickford from Worthing in England and Walt Mueller from the Presbyterian Church in America. Walt is Director of the Centre for Parent and Youth Understanding and has been working in youth ministry for over 20 years.

Organising the mammoth event is Youth Officer Roz Stirling who comments:

"This event is designed to make a real impact both within and outside the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. We need to address the whole issue of youth ministry urgently, we need to ensure that we can increase understanding. For some it has to be a time for attitude change, but with God's blessing the next generation of church goers will see benefits."

Demand is expected to be high so churches are urged to contact the Youth Office on 01232 322284.
